Take Beautiful Photos the Easy Way

Taking photos of books is way easier than taking photos of shoes and clothes. I use a basic Samsung phone for my camera. I have box lights I ordered from Amazon but I only use it during the winter / grey weather. Natural light is super quick and free, the trick is to know when the best daylight hours are. Lately for me, now that it's cooled down a bit, I take photos around 4 and end at 5, and have 10 - 15 photos ready to post throughout the day. The photo above was taken with my fancy lights, and the photo below is natural lighting. I normally take 4 photos: front cover, spine, back cover, and front page. I will also take photos of any imperfections and mention it in my description.  I use a cream colored linen bedsheet I found at a thrift store for flat lays. I also like to think of my shop aesthethic. You don't have to do this (see example videos below for plain white backdrop tips) but i do so people become familiar with my brand, Hyla Brook Books.   Here's 2 great v

5 Steps To Start Selling on Mercari

I am getting my first deposit from Mercari in a few days. In a little less than two months I profited $179. Why am I telling you this? Because I want to help you too! my bookstore is called Hyla Brook Books. I go to Goodwill and the Hospice and buy used books and clothes to resell for a profit. Luckily, before losing my cozy corporate job to COVID, I was a waitress, a job that taught me how to hustle. My business goal is to make as much money as I did waiting tables, like $300 a week.  if I could have 3-7 orders a day, I could make a living as a reseller.  The Hospice sells books for a quarter. For now. They have been increasing their prices on everything else, even vintage books. i look for books that are brand new and vintage. anything with an interesting cover. journals. stationary. book ends. figurines. childrens books. baby books. music sheets. cook books. art books. text books.  I created a facebook group called AVALON that you can try selling books too. I recommend to start

Be My Guest!

Hello friends! I wanted to dedicate a space to see behind the scenes of running a resell business. I basically run a secondhand bookshop in my apartment! Every week I'll share how much I made and what I thrifted. Each month I'll do an overview of how I did and set my goals. I want to expand Hyla Brook Books into a business with a staff, I dream of getting a red brick cafe where not only can you find books, but folk art and listen to musicians every Friday. A girl can dream can't she?   ◦°˚\(*❛‿❛)/˚°◦ Sign up for Mercari and get up to $30.
