I can't believe that the same week I started listing I got sales!! There were three occasions, all sunny afternoons at the end of January between 3 pm and 5pm, right before it got too dark to take pictures. I took photos of all new inventory and chose Pango Books and Mercari to start listing.
There has been a lot of promotions on my Facebook page, the social media platform I spend most of my time on. I joined some facebook groups for resellers. I decided on my next paycheck, I wanted to buy my domain. This side hustle was my dream job, maybe being a teacher feels out of reach. But I've always wanted to be a writer. A bookseller, being my own business owner, maybe. Just maybe that's what I can do!
My reselling goal is to make what I made at my survival job. (I got paid $12/hour and worked 16 hours a week. Some weeks I worked 22 hours.) I'll be satisfied if I make any where between $80- $170. I listed a total of ___ books to each platform, and a total of 3 books sold. If I'm not mistaken, that's a %6 sell through rate. In order to reach my monetary goal of $170 then I'll need to list at least 200 books per week.
I used recycled packaging for all three orders. My costs of goods was only a quarter! Two of the books were donated! I will pay myself every Thursday, so there's 5 days to make ___!!
This book sold within 24 hours of listing! Long Live the Pumpkin Queen was free, I sold it for $6. Buyer paid for shipping. The selling fee was .60 and the processing fee was .67. My profit was $4.73!
I sold the Lincoln Highway. I picked this book up for the author and I'm a sucker for historical novels inspired by this time period. This was donated. It sold on Pango Books, the other books sold on Mercari. It sold for $3.95. The platform fee was .79. My earnings were $3.16. Buyer paid for shipping.
My total profits was $13.49.
My net profit was $13.24.
I'll be satisfied if I make $67 within the following week!
Tomorrow I will do my first live, it's going to be a fundraiser to raise money for Nine Chances Rescue. I'm not sure if I should give 100% of proceeds to the rescue, because I do need to recuperate for cost of goods. I thought about the TOMS model.
As a reseller, I would not buy used TOMS shoes to resell. I read his book last year, Start Something that Matters and it is inspiring, but I notice people don't style TOMS as much as they used to.
TOMS has a new model where for every $3 they make, $1 is donated to organizations. TOMS shoes model was for every pair sold, a pair of shoes was given to a kid in need. I could, for example, say buy one book, get one free, sell each book for $4. Then for every $4, I donate $2. I do need the money, but I also really want to do some good.
I'm leaning towards 100% of the proceeds will go to the rescue, at least until I figure out my charitable business model.
What would you recommend? Are there any businesses that inspire you?
