Thrift with me! I spend $25 on inventory to resell in my bookshop!

I had to go pay rent and I looked like a waif doing it. I'm glad I didn't ask for a ride. I was uninfluenced by any one around me, not having to think too hard about socializing.

from a reseller's perspective, I wasted money.

I spent $24.67 on 19 books for the shop. I carried 10 pounds of books and walked 3  miles. You could say that I got a good exercise while sourcing. And one of the books from the haul sold less than 24 hours after listing it!

Goodwill thrift haul

come book shopping with me! vlog

(And I have if not hundreds of ex library books that still need to be listed.) I am feeling buyer's remorse. I posted a YouTube video of my book haul except I forgot to mention a few details:

This haul was on May 5, and I had all books listed on Mercari, Depop, and Pango books by May 6-7. I'm hoping I will make my money back by the 20th.

I walked into Goodwill the first time with every intention to only spend $5. I bought a small batch of children's books: Clifford the Big Red Dog, Rainbow Brite, The Foolish Tortoise, Detective Arthur on the Scent, and Cajun Night Before Christmas.

Rainbow Brite sold for $10 on Mercari. Buyer paid for shipping. After Mercari fees I made $8.09. My COG for that book was .99. So let's make that profit of $7.09.

That means that I need to make $17. 58 to make my money back from these books, and whatever left over is profit. I already know the Cajun Night Before Christmas can sell between 10-15 and the Frog and Toad book will sell.

If I do end up keeping the tales of the Beatrix Potter book, then I must resell 2 books from my personal shelf. One book in, two books out. I know this sounds like negative self talk, but hopefully it will make me more selective of the books in my personal collection.

Then I went and spent $19. Looking back, I know I could have found a one or three garments to flip and not had to have carried so much weight back, and maybe even have made more profit.

I will eventually branch out into more clothing, but I know books the best. I also don't like having clothes around me, not in my size or style. I am consoled by bookshelves full of books.

There's that quote by Cicero: a house without books is like a body without a soul.

End of Month Reseller Report - July 2021

How much did I make in July? It's August 2nd and I'm taking a look back at my accomplishments.  What Sold July 1-7 What Sold July 8-14 What Sold July 15-21 What Sold July 22-31 I made $235.54 selling books. I did my first ever listing challenge and I want to do another one - stricker dead line.  List 100 Items in 13 Days. That's half the time it took to do the original challenge. 13 is also the date I was born. A Baker's Dozen. Perfect! When I told Joe at the Post Office I wanted to make $1k or $800 a month he blew a tire and looked skeptical, and he kinda laughed. We both did. Is it such a crazy idea that I deserve this? That at the end of everything, I'll be the owner of a secondhand bookshop. Some cool things I added to my shop: Magic The Gathering Cards, skirts, I opened my Ebay store and added items but haven't completed the set up.  Also, my new goal is to make $100 each week by pursuing sales. Offering to likers on Depop which i never do - posting more i...

What Sold July 1-7

These weekly What Sold posts kept me organized, so I'm bringing them back. I review what items sold on each platform, how much it sold, the fees, and what my profit was. Every month I have the same goal to make $350, but my dream goal is to make $800 per month just by selling books. I currently sell on Depop, Mercari, Instagram, Etsy, and various Facebook groups. Depop has been incredibly slow - I have not made any July sales yet. In June I had 4 orders, in May I had 3, in April I had 6 orders, 7 orders in March, 9 in February, and 7 in January. That gives you an idea how many orders come through Depop and why it's important to cross list. I think I have more sales on Mercari. The Summer Slowdown is here! I haven't made any sales yet on Mercari in July. Mercari makes it a little harder to view your sales history in chronological order, but here is how many orders went through each month this year 2021 on Mercari: January - | | | | | | February - March - | | | | | | | | Ap...

Selling on Ebay for Beginners - Pt. 1

I am brand new to selling on Ebay, I avoided it because I personally felt that the interface felt outdated, I never buy anything on Ebay, and Ebay seems intimidating . On the other platforms I sell on, it is so easy and fast to list. When I listed my first item, it felt like I was filing out paperwork at a doctor's office. It's going to take some time to get used to Ebay's layout, a newcomer can't navigate the Seller's Hub so quickly. It's free to register. Ebay will send an amount to your bank you have to confirm to receive payments. When you first start out, you can only list 10 items per month, this renews every 90. You have to build up your "feedback" - so I'll have to make a purchase or two through Ebay. (Going to see if I can find a Samsung Technologies Q2U microphone to upgrade my Podcast!) This link below is essential reading for new Ebay sellers: https://export.ebay.com/en/listings/limits/selling-limits/ The website says 10, but I was onl...
